Snap a photo of the receipt, flatmates tick off their items, done 💸
Spießer is my hobby project for student flats (a "WG" in German, short for Wohngemeinschaft). Less money stress at the kitchen table, more time for flat life, with a pinch of Ruhr-area charm on the side 🥔
Beta test: for you clever foxes, the link is further down.
Instead of dumping a crumpled receipt on the kitchen table, just take a photo of it. Quick as a flash, done 🔥

Have your receipt analysed and see how quick and easy Spießer makes flat life 🎉
Receipts only, no other formats.

Our beta testers love how intuitive it is 💚 Feel free to give your two cents!
Thanks for asking! Here is just a taste of the existing features. The focus on shared costs brings financial flat peace.
Photograph the receipt, done. The app picks up the shop, the date, items and prices automatically. Works at places like the corner shop, Rewe, Edeka, Lidl, Aldi, dm and you name it 😎 Five scans a day are free, typing it in always works.
"I don't drink milk!" No problem. Pick only the items you actually consume. Private items, shared items, anything goes. Fair to the cent. Wake the penny-pincher in you 🦊
Our algorithm works out who owes whom how much and suggests a few clear payments: at most one fewer than the number of people in your flat. For PayPal there is a PayPal.Me link with the amount filled in, bank transfer and cash work too.
GDPR focus, core data in Frankfurt, no ads. A UI by potatoes for potatoes. No US startup vibes, just authentic, lovingly made design. Like Granny's household book, only digital. Now you know!
Spießer all the way! Check the comparison with Splitwise, Flatastic and Tricount.

In the app you vote on which features we build next. Or how the buttons should look. Or which garden gnome is still missing.
"Bigger room = pay more?" With electricity bills and the like, that was always an argument in our flat.
Automatically left out of new costs while you sizzle in the sun somewhere else
The automatic cash count rescues the brave souls who pay up front
For your tax return or nostalgia. I personally don't need it, but maybe you do?
Take your old balances along when your flat switches. Until then: settle up once, start at zero.
Built and finished, arriving with the next update: see what your flat spends money on, and internet or streaming add themselves.

I keep building Spießer on my own. You test new features in your real flat, tell me what annoys you, and help me choose the next steps.
With most of them, yes! Rewe, Edeka, Lidl, Aldi, dm, Rossmann: all tested. If the quality is really bad (crumpled, faded), you may have to correct a few things, though there is already an AI feature that helps with that. But even then it is faster than typing everything in by hand.
Ideally yes, then everyone sees their own balance. If someone has not joined yet, you add them as a placeholder with a name and email and split with them anyway. Once one flatmate is convinced, they usually convince the others.
Yes. Spießer is on the App Store and Google Play. We test new features in advance with real flats. If you sign up for the beta, we will let you know as soon as a suitable test starts.
No data sales, and core app data is mostly stored in Frankfurt (Firebase). Receipt recognition runs through Microsoft Azure in Germany. Not everything stays in the EU: sign-in runs through Firebase Authentication, and hard-to-read receipts may be sent to the OpenAI API for correction. Receipt photos are stored so your flat can trace a purchase. Details are in the privacy policy.
Absolutely! The app calls itself a "shared-flat app", but it works just as well for couples, families or travel groups. Anywhere shared costs are split.
PayPal with a ready-made PayPal.Me link, bank transfer, cash or something creative, like "doing the dishes". The money moves outside the app, Spießer only keeps the books.
For shared flats Spießer, for trips Splitwise. In its free version Splitwise limits entries per day, and receipt scanning and item assignment are only part of the Pro subscription. Spießer does exactly this for free and without ads: photograph the receipt and split the items one by one (who drinks the milk, who does not). The catch: Spießer is still young and supports only one flat per person. More in the Spießer vs. Splitwise comparison (in German).
Yes, Spießer. Free, no ads, from the Ruhr area, built in Bremen and made for shared flats: photograph the receipt, split items one by one, core app data mostly in Frankfurt. Receipt scanning is also in paid Splitwise Pro, with Spießer five scans a day are free. Spießer is available for iPhone and Android.
You photograph the receipt with the app. Our AI (OCR text recognition) reads the shop, the date, all items and prices automatically. Then you see a checklist: everyone in the flat ticks only the items they wanted, and the rest is split automatically. It works with most supermarkets and drugstores. If the receipt quality is really bad, you can correct things by hand.
The best way is to simply show them on the next shop: photograph the receipt, assign the items, done. The argument "everyone pays only for what they wanted" usually works right away. Our onboarding is kept as short as possible, your flatmates only need to install the app and join the flat group. You do not have to convince anyone up front, the first shared shop does that by itself.
